Students
are constantly trying to acquire knowledge and
they are doing their best. Parents and the school
system are providing maximum facilities to the
best of their abilities to the students. Students
try to acquire highest honors in various fields.
The highest academic honor for a school or college
student is to get gold, silver or bronze medal
in International Junior or Senior Olympiad examination.
These medals are equally important to the nation,
school and home along with the individual student.
Most of the students do not get proper information
on time and they are deprived of the golden opportunities.
Maharashtra Knowledge Corporation Limited (MKCL)
has decided to provide all academic information
on time.
A student needs to be tested repeatedly and
provided with nurturing facility to reach higher
and higher levels. Presently such system is
not available. Indian Consortium for Educational
Transformation (ICONSENT) and (MKCL) are jointly
launching ‘Maharashtra Olympiad Abhiyan’
to create supportive system of testing and evaluation.
Students must be properly facilitated so that
they become capable of winning higher and higher
academic honors. Finally, they should become
capable of winning highest academic award which
is International Olympiad Medal. For this, ICONCENT
and MKCL have launched Nurturing Excellence
and Talent Services (NETS) programme. NETS programme
is a part of ‘Virtual School and Learning
Homes’ (VSLH) programme of ICONCENT and
MKCL. The NETS programme will be executed through
the Taluka Lead Centers (TLC) of MKCL.
NETS programme consists of a series of three
tests for 7th, 8th & 9th standard based
on the syllabi of International Junior Science
Olympiads and two nurturing programmes between
them. The quality and difficulty level will
also be of international level. The criteria
of success are evolved. Successful students
at first level test will become eligible for
second level test and first talent nurturing
programme. Similar procedure will be adopted
for second level also. Finally thirty five (35)
students will be declared as successful candidates.
They will be recognized as ‘Maharashtra
Olympiad Scholars’. They will be felicitated
by special awards.
Homi Bhabha Center for Science Education (HBCSE)
is the institute that sends official national
team of India for Olympiads on behalf of ‘national
steering committee for Olympiads’. International
Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO) is held in December
every year. India has not officially sent team
for IJSO yet. It has been decided to send official
team for it from December 2008. Students below
age fifteen (15 yr) are eligible for it i. e.
any student of 7th, 8th and 9th class who will
be within the age remains eligible.
HBCSE conducts a workshop / training camp
before final selection of National Team. Some
of the Maharashtra Olympiad Scholars will get
opportunity to be selected in HBCSE Training
Camp. We are sure that Maharashtra Olympiad
Scholars will become National Team Members and
they will bring medals for the country in International
Junior Science Olympiad and later in International
Senior Science Olympiads.
